Two rumors are going around the high school and the small town of Healy, Tx.
  1. Alice Franklin slept with two guys in the very same night.
  2. One of the guys she slept with Brandon Fitzsimmons, the very popular high school quarterback, died in a car accident AND it was Alice's fault.

This engaging tale is told from the perspective of different teenagers for each chapter. This enticing read sheds a light on the social dynamic of rumors and the pervasiveness of lying. I especially enjoyed the oblique referrals to the Nazis and how going along with the crowd can be insidious.

My only problem with this book is that I don't think teenagers or even people in general are as introspective as portrayed in the book but, while this took away from the realness factor it was integral for the story. A definite must read for anyone who has felt the brunt of peer pressure.
