I believe this is the 39th book in the installment, and we find Eve and her crew trying to solve the murder of a narcissistic gym rat, Trey Ziegler; while at the same time juggling holiday preparations and family functions. Even though the In Death books have a familiar pattern: murder, viable suspects, more mystery, suspect elimination, interspersed with Eve's personal life; this pattern never feels formulaic. If you are like me, and have read the books in order, it is always exciting to check in with all the repeat characters from Eve's life. Readers happily find out how everyone is doing from Peabody to baby Bella we find out the gang's all fine and how their lives are progressing.
In the end the murder is solved, the bad guys caught, Eve is supreme cop, there has been sex, violence and the good guys ride off into the sunset until next time. Is it any wonder I love these books?
